Thank you everyone for coming to get your children so quickly on Friday.
I understand there were conflicting times on the radio regarding pick up time: 2 hours early, 1:00 and then our time of 12:30.
I think because Grace School closes at 3:00 and the public schools close after 2:15, this has made a difference in early pick up times.
I will look into this and let you know what I hear.
Our dear Mrs. Squires has been out of school for a couple of days and everyone is missing her very much! We are praying for her that she rests and comes back to us in the next few days when she is ready. We have been blessed to have the help of Mrs. Sider and Mrs. McGonnell as well as Mrs. Bissett help with our class in the absence of Mrs. Squires. Thank you ladies so much for your time.
Looking towards the next two weeks…
We have 2 short weeks in a row coming up.
This Wednesday, February 1st. is a P. D-day where the staff are at school, but the children are not.
The following Friday, February 10th there is no school due to day-time parent teacher meetings for those who can`t make the Thursday evening meetings.
For those of you who have not had a peek at our school Calender it can be found on the school web page at www.gracechristianschool.ca in the bottom right corner marked Calender to give you a heads up for school events.
I will be introducing a word game called Beat-The-Clock . It will be in your child`s DOG BOOK this week. This game is mainly for our Sr. students who are going into grade one. I will give every child a copy of the word list as I know there are some keen Jr`s with in our group that would love the challenge of this game too!! If your child is part-time, please don’t panic as I don’t expect your child to play this game as the full-time children would.
This word page has an extensive list of three-letter words that match our phonics learning. I suggest the children begin with the `C` list of words. Time how long it takes for your child to read the first four words or so from the list. Praise them up for this! Mark down their time on the sheet that goes along with their Word List and see how long it takes the second time to read the same four words. Ask them “Can you beat the clock?” As the child gains confidence, expand the list! Choose a new letter column to read fresh words from. Please date and initial the time your child scored. The idea here is to beat their own time, not someone elses.
We play this game as a class on Tuesday and Thursday’s with our blend ladders so this won’t be completely new for them. As a class we work together to beat our time! The children are able to “call on a friend” if they get stuck. The game continues until all the children have read a blend. Then we mark down our time and try to beat it. I hope you enjoy this time with your child Beating the Clock! I will add a number game to Beat the Clock in the future.
Things to watch for this week include:
Jan. 30 – Feb 3rd
Monday: Mrs. Bissett and Brenlea comes to visit in the AM. Thank you!!!
Tuesday: Gym with Mrs. Laird
Wednesday: NO SCHOOL due to P.D. day
Thursday: Music with Mrs. Devries
Friday: Ooka Island and Show and Tell
In the month of February we will be going Skating at Simmons Rink on North RIver Road. If you would like your child to come with us, they will need to have a helmet and a pair of skates. As the teachers are on the ice too, we will not be able to watch the children who will not be skating. Please send your children only if they will be skating. We will be looking for drivers to help get us there. All are welcome: Grandparents, and younger siblings too. Sometimes there are Mom’s pushing strollers with babies in them. You are welcome to join us. I will let you know of the cost soon.
If you would like your child to participate but they do not have skates or a helmet, please let me know and I will put out a request to families and we’ll see what God does.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Laura Perry
