Full Time Families

Hello full-time families,

Please remember to sign and return your child’s permission slip Monday for our class trip this Tuesday.

The details of our trip to the Hunter River Dental Clinic are on the permission slip as well as on the school web-site calendar of events at the top of the Home Page.

Something New!

We have been invited by Mrs. Paquet to have a  play date  at her home  after our trip to Hunter River Dental Clinic.

Mrs. Paquet is Clara’s mother and they live about 5 min away from the Clinic.  So instead of coming back to the school for lunch on Tuesday, we will go straight to Clara’s house in New Glasgow for our lunch and spend the afternoon together there before returning to the school for 3:00 .

Please pack your child’s kit bag as usual with a snack, lunch and drink.

Mom’s come and enjoy a lovely afternoon of good conversation and getting to know other  ladies.

Thank you Mrs. Paquet!

I enjoy spending time in your home.  God has blessed you with the gift of hospitality. You have a lovely way of making guests feel welcome.  I’m looking forward to our visit on Tuesday.

See you all in the morning.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Laura Perry

Hi there everyone.

Many of you have been asking about our Mrs. Squires and sending along your best wishes.

This week Mrs. Squires had a second unrelated surgery that will require a few weeks of rest and restoration.

She will be fine.  There is no need for alarm.  I’m sure she would ask for prayer for herself aswell as her family at this time.

Mrs. Sider and Mrs. McGonnell will be stepping in during Mrs. Squires’s absence.

This Tuesday is our Full-Time kindergarten class trip to Hunter River Dental Clinic.

I will be sending permission slips home on Friday.

Parent teacher interviews will be held this Thursday evening from 6:00-9:00pm. and Friday morning  10:00am-12:00pm.

Appointments can be made by visiting or phoning Miss Fanning in the office.  She will be happy to help you.

The Elementary skate at Simmons North River Rink begins on Friday Feb. 24th and continues each Friday until our last skate on March 16th.  Hope you can come!

Talk to you soon.

Have a good weekend.

Mrs. Perry

P.D.Day!

Hi everyone,

Just a friendly reminder that tomorrow, Wed. Feb. 1st is a P.D. day at school.

That means the teachers are in meetings for the day, but the students have the day off.

I sent home the children’s Blend and Word Book’s with them today.

Please return them on Thursday with your child.

Thank you so much.

Mrs. Laura Perry

4 Day Week

Thank you everyone for coming to get your children so quickly on Friday.

I understand there were conflicting times on the radio regarding pick up time: 2 hours early, 1:00 and then our time of 12:30.

I think because Grace School closes at 3:00 and the public schools close after 2:15, this has made a difference in early pick up times.

I will look into this and let you know what I hear.

Our dear Mrs. Squires has been out of school for a couple of days and everyone is missing her very much!  We are praying for her that she rests and comes back to us in the next few days when she is ready.   We have been blessed to have the help of Mrs. Sider and Mrs. McGonnell as well as Mrs. Bissett help with our class in the absence of Mrs. Squires.  Thank you ladies so much for your time.

Looking towards the next two weeks…

We have 2 short weeks in a row coming up.

This Wednesday, February 1st. is a P. D-day where the staff are at school, but the children are not.

The following Friday, February 10th there is no school due to day-time parent teacher meetings for those who can`t make the Thursday evening meetings.

For those of you who have not had a peek at our school Calender it can be found on the school web page at www.gracechristianschool.ca in the bottom right corner marked Calender to give you a heads up for school events.

I will be introducing a word  game called Beat-The-Clock .  It will be in your child`s DOG BOOK this week. This game is mainly for our Sr. students who are going into grade one.  I will give every child a copy of the word list as I know there are some keen Jr`s with in our group that would love the challenge of this game too!!   If your child is part-time, please don’t panic as I don’t expect your child to play this game as the full-time children would.

This word page has an extensive list of three-letter words that match our phonics learning.   I suggest the children begin with the `C` list of words.  Time how long it takes for your child to read the first four words or so from the list. Praise them up for this!  Mark down their time on the sheet that goes along with their Word List and see how long it takes the second time to read the same four words.  Ask them “Can you beat the clock?”  As the child gains confidence, expand the list!  Choose a new letter column to read fresh words from.  Please date and initial the time your child scored.  The idea here is to beat their own time, not someone elses.

We play this game as a class on Tuesday and Thursday’s with our blend ladders so this won’t be completely new for them.  As a class we work together to beat our time!  The children are able to “call on a friend” if they get stuck. The game continues until all the children have read a blend.  Then we mark down our time and try to beat it.  I hope you enjoy this time with your child Beating the Clock!  I will add a number game to Beat the Clock in the future.

Things to watch for this week include:

Jan. 30 – Feb 3rd

Monday: Mrs. Bissett and Brenlea comes to visit in the AM. Thank you!!!

Tuesday: Gym with Mrs. Laird

Wednesday: NO SCHOOL due to P.D. day

Thursday: Music with Mrs. Devries

Friday: Ooka Island and Show and Tell

In the month of February we will be going Skating at Simmons Rink on North RIver Road.  If you would like your child to come with us, they will need to have a helmet and a pair of skates.  As the teachers are on the ice too, we will not be able to watch the children who will not be skating.  Please send your children only if they will be skating.  We will be looking for drivers to help get us there.  All are welcome: Grandparents, and younger siblings too.  Sometimes there are Mom’s pushing strollers with babies in them.  You are welcome to join us.  I will let you know of the cost soon.

If you would like your child to participate but they do not have skates or a helmet, please let me know and I will put out a request to families and we’ll see what God does.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Laura Perry

School Closing Early Today

Hello everyone,

Schools are closing at 12:30 today due to pending storm.

Please pick up your child by 12:30.

Thank you!

Mrs. Perry

Thursday January,26

Just a note to our parents new to Grace Christian School.

Sometimes there are school cancellations during the day because of poor weather conditions.  If the weather looks poor, listen to the radio as they will announce any early school closures for the Island.

In case of closures, the children will need to be picked up right away so we can all get home safely.

Tomorrow sound like there may be poor weather conditions coming our way at mid day.

Please drive carefully.  Listen to radio reports.  See you in the morning!

Sincerely,

Mrs.Laura Perry
